An initiative of the eHealth Consortium (Hong Kong) in one of its three key areas of activity: data sharing and standardisation.

The aim of the White Paper is to provide a series of recommendations on standards to support an integrated health information architecture or framework and, more specifically, data sharing amongst healthcare providers for possible adoption by the Hong Kong Hospital Authority.

After an introduction to computerization of the Healthcare Sector in Hong Kong, the document discusses standards in the following areas:

• Patient identification
• Identification of healthcare providers/ specialty/ institute
• patient record structure, format ...
• Terminologies (clinical data, drugs, lab. tests ...)
• Messaging
• Knowledge representation
• Data Privacy, Confidentiality & Security

An appendix includes a list of standard terminologies adopted in Hong Kong hospitals.
