The SAGE (Sharable Active Guideline Environment) Project is a research and development project to develop a standards-based infrastructure to support the encoding, dissemination and deployment of interoperable, electronic clinical practice guidelines.

Main project results will include:
  • "A guideline model: a standards-based "language" for representing clinical guidelines in a consistent format
  • A guideline "workbench" [or knowledge authoring tool] to enable standards-based guidelines to be expressed in a uniform electronic format
  • A guideline deployment system: technology to enable the electronic guidelines to be imported into any clinical information system." [IDX]
