NOTE: Expert Panel Report 3 (EPR 3) was published in July 2007 though the reference tool based on Expert Panel Report 2 was still available at end-August 2007. This page will remain here on the expectation that an updated tool will be published at some point.

The software available for download and use on Palm OS devices provides a "point-of-care reference to the full NAEPP Expert Panel Report 2: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma" (2002).

The guidelines update the 1991 expert panel report, and provide "information on treating asthma at all severity levels and stress both clinical and self-management strategies."

Contents include:

  • Control of Contributing Factors Pharmacologic Treatment
  • Treatment of Exacerbations Medication Dosages Patient
  • Education."

TealInfo shareware reader software must be installed on a Palm OS device to display the interactive documents. A free 30-day demo version can be downloaded, after which it must be paid for to continue using the guidelines on a PDA.

" The EPR 3 Guidelines on Asthma was developed by an expert panel commissioned by the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) Coordinating Committee (CC), coordinated by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health. Using the 1997 EPR 2 guidelines and the 2004 update of EPR 2 as the framework, the expert panel organized the literature review and final guidelines report around four essential components of asthma care, namely: assessment and monitoring, patient education, control of factors contributing to asthma severity, and pharmacologic treatment. Subtopics were developed for each of these four broad categories. "
